A Notary Public is a qualified lawyer specialising in dealing with foreign documents. A Notary will see the client and certify documents and attested these. The Notary can also organise legalisation of documents which can include obtaining an Apostille from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and also from other foreign embassies and consulate offices situated in the England and Wales.
The type of documents that a Notary will deal with can include a:-
- Power of attorney
- Letter of consent
- Title documents
- Certification of copy documents to include certifying passport and other identity documents
- Marriage declaration
- Certifying a marriage certificate
- Certifying a death certificate
- Certifying a decree absolute
A Notary Public can be a member of the Notaries Society. The Notary will be regulated by the Faculty Office of the Archbishop of Canterbury. A Notary Public qualified to practise in England and Wales can practise in any county or town in England and Wales.
